Just because someone has more money than God, it doesn’t necessarily follow that they don’t have concerns about the planet, does it?
Power couple Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, and Brazilian super model Gisele Bundchen may not have a checking account quite as big as God’s, but it is easy to believe they carry as many Gold Cards (OK, we know that God doesn’t need a gold card).
Our apologies for sounding a little bit sacrilegious. It is all in fun. Besides, God built a much more tasteful place to hang his hat than the Brady’s are constructing. But why shouldn’t they? After all Forbes has pointed out that the Brady’s are the world’s highest earning celebrity couple. It is impressive to consider that even with his gig with the Pat’s, Giselle is the breadwinner in the household which brings in around $76 million each year.
So what kind of digs do you need with $76 million on your tax return? Well you will need something that looks nice on the 3.75 acres you bought in Brentwood, CA, for a bargain $11 million. It is only reasonable that you economize with a $20 million palace on the grounds. (You didn’t think that this was going to be a “Small House Movement” article, did you?) The 22,000 square foot shack is nearing completion, and should be ready for the family (including their son Benjamin) to move in and get their start in the world.
The modest eight bedroom place will have a six car garage, a wine cellar, a weight room where Tom is sure to get his best workout, and a nursery for Benjamin. We’re hoping to get invited over for cocktails by the lagoon shaped pool. Maybe we’ll get to sit in the shade of the covered bridge (!) the links the two (his and her?) wings of the house.
Where does the Green part come in? After all, Mrs. Brady is a Designated Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme, what ever that means. Once negative press about the Ambassadress putting money into an energy sucking 22,000 square foot edifice, Gisele pointed out that she is having solar energy systems installed, along with energy saving appliances and lighting, a rainwater recovery system, waste reduction measures, and recycling bins.
We’re not really up to speed on what a Designated Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme does, but it is good to know that the couple is doing what they can to reduce their carbon footprint.
